Aged care is local. Your support should be personal.
Availability, costs and care options vary from one community to the next. Start with local information, then talk through what it means for your family.
Plain-English answers for complicated moments.
RAD, DAP, ACAT, respite, star ratings and care fees can make a difficult moment harder. We translate the language, explain the choices and help you know what to ask next.
How aged care fees work in Australia
Aged care fees in Australia are broken down into three main parts: a Basic Daily Fee (which everyone pays for living costs like food and laundry), a Means-Tested Care Fee (determined by Services Australia based on your income and assets), and Accommodation Costs (RAD or DAP). We can help you estimate these costs and understand the difference between paying a lump sum versus a daily rate.
Residential care or home care?
Home Care Packages allow you to stay in your own home with visiting support (like nursing, cleaning, or meals), but wait times can be long and support hours are limited. Residential Care is for when living at home is no longer safe or practical, offering 24/7 support. We help families weigh current safety risks against package wait times to find the most practical path.
The questions worth asking on a tour
Don't just look at the chandeliers. Ask about staff ratios, especially on weekends and nights. Ask how they manage changing care needs (do residents have to move rooms?), what the menu rotation looks like, and how they handle medical emergencies. A good home will welcome these questions with transparency.
What to bring to your first assessment
An ACAT/ACAS assessment determines your eligibility for government-subsidised care. Prepare by having medical history, a list of current medications, and examples of daily struggles ready. Be honest about your worst days, not your best ones — the assessor needs to understand the full reality of your situation to assign the right level of funding.
“We went from a list of names and a lot of worry to three options we could visit. The difference was having someone make the process legible.”
Clear enough to trust. Caring enough to call.
Tell us what is happening. We’ll help you find a way forward.
Share as much or as little as you are comfortable with. A caring placement specialist will listen, clarify the priorities and contact you within one business day.
